Buyer Beware! The response from the owner not accurate. 1st I had no dealings with him and was told he was not in the store when I came in. 2nd I was quoted $120 for a new drive and $100 for installation & file recovery - which I have not disputed even though I have since learned I did not need the hard drive. The only part of his response that is true is that I dealt with the owner at pick up. He told me they recovered "everything they were able to recover". This is when he informed me of the extra $300 fee that was never mentioned to me nor approved by me. When I questioned the extra $300 I was told it was because of the "extra time" they spent on the repair. I paid it at the time b/c I needed my computer and they were holding it hostage. When I got it home I saw only about 50% of my data was restored and no applications. I now have restored ALL OF MY APPLICATIONS & ALL OF MY DATA THAT THEY DID NOT RECOVER - due to a competent computer person who helped me after I brought my computer home. I was honest and called the owner to negotiate this credit. I explained to him that the lapse of time was b/c I needed to verify that there was no corruption on my old hard drive and know that I was able to retrieve my files and applications. I needed to know FOR SURE that I was scammed. That does not happen quickly when you're also dealing with other personal issues. Even though I always suspected the scam I wanted to have proof of it before disputing it. He offered me only $100 credit when he owes me a MINIMUM of the $300 extra charge. I offered to either email the reports that prove my findings or to bring the old drive in. He is lucky I didn't dispute the entire bill. ANOTHER UNTRUTH - I didn't dispute the charge with my credit card company until a week later on 1/23 - after he showed me he was not willing to be fair. This is a warning to others especially if you're a woman or have gray hair. PS - the tech bent my flash drive with the clean copy of Windows and they said they repaired it for me but it is dead. THIS IS THE ORIGINAL POST - I had a power outage during a windows update which caused the computer to not boot. I was in a crunch with medical issues and needed to finish a presentation. I took my computer and a clean download on a flash drive to them to load for me. I came back a few hrs later for the tech to tell me I had a bad hard drive (hard to believe but he had me in a difficult situation). He told me a day to install & quoted $120. for the drive and $100 to transfer all my files. My instinct was to check it out first but I said OK. It wasn't ready but they then said they were taking extra time to copy my applications / software from the bad drive. When I picked up the computer the bill was over $500. I was upset but figured there was nothing I could do. When I got it home I found none of the applications on the computer were the same version as mine, and most of my files were not on the new drive. After being properly analyzed by another company I learned there was nothing wrong with my hard drive. As I told them to begin with it was a corrupt windows update. After purchasing a device to access the old drive directly I was able with many hours of work to restore my applications and my files. I called and spoke with Omar who was nice but he kept having to call back after talking to his tech. I had asked for a $300 credit since that extra charge was never quoted or authorized. I felt I would be justified to dispute the entire charge but they did install a new hard drive. He called back and offered me $100 credit. I should have disputed the entire amount with my credit card as the tech was trying to take advantage of me b/c I'm a woman in my 70's. He didn't know that I am very computer savvy and could tell the difference between the versions of software he put on my computer and the ones I originally owned. Even Word was not the same and cost me many hours of extra work to reformat an important board presentation. Never again will I allow anyone I don't know to touch my computer.
