Never again will I use the Geek Squad, quite possibly, never again will I use Best Buy because of it. I gave them my computer to fix when it was acting up and after two or three days or so they said it was done. However, I would probably notice a few changes. Yeah, I did, first noticed was MICROSOFT OFFICE WAS GONE. I've had Office since I got the computer, plus all the computers BEFORE this one. It was one of the first programs installed, the "official" bought and paid version. It would not boot. Fortunately, I'd backed up all documents for Word, Excel, etc. Also, fortunately my backups are NOT ON MY COMPUTER but on separate drives attached to my computer. Over the years, I've learned my lessons well. I have TWO backups. I just don't understand how or why they would delete Microsoft Office or reinstall it if they had too. It was not something "new" on the computer, it has been installed since 2019. I also found a Directory THEY installed on my computer. They made a "New Volume" and put it on. At this point I'm not even sure if this is spyware or not. The more I poke around, the more stuff I find that they put on the computer and then, as I said, removed Microsoft Office which was on the computer since 2019. It's kind of scarey.

I would not recommend this Geek Squad at the moment as I was mislead and lied to several times by team members who don’t seem to speak to one another. 1) 2 geeksquad crew told me modified device could be sent out under my bought geeksquad warranty as long as I removed the modified parts. This was told to me to be false by the manager. 2) I was told I could get a data wipe on my computer that they knew did not always boot. This then lead to 3)me showing up for pick up only to be told that they did not do the data wipe 4) told by the man helping me that wouldn’t be able to on a computer that doesn’t boot (this is a lie see below) 5) told by the geek squad manager they did wipe one drive but not all three 6) told by the manager they can wipe a device that won’t boot. Rechecked in device to wipe all three drives. 7) received a phone call a day later saying they rewiped the first drive (why???) and did I want the the other two wiped. I said yes, obviously. 8) told they wiped the main drive for a third time but this time accidentally deleted the OS. Asked if I wanted it reinstalled, obviously I do. 9) no one called me again and I eventually went to pick up a week later. They could not confirm the device had an os on it and had to call the manager. I ended up having to boot to OS myself in store (which they apparently don’t know how to do) and verify myself. This miscommunication and disregard for good repair has left a horrible taste in my mouth. I could not recommend this store less for simple repairs. If they don’t know how to wipe an unbootable device (ie remove the drives manually) they will lose most of their clients.

So went in because I spilled juice on my laptop, and it shut off. Figured maybe they could look inside and see if it’s damaged badly. First guy said wait over there at the other desk and someone will come and help. Btw I did schedule an appointment so it wasn’t just a walk in. 2nd guy comes out from behind the curtain when I tell him what happened he starts to look up my account and I explain to him, oh well I didn’t get my laptop through you guys. He then looks at my laptop and looks at me. And makes a cringe face, and goes “oh well, to send it out because it’s probably the hard drive that is damaged, would cost probably 800-900 and that’s not really worth paying about the amount the laptop is” which was disappointing, but also he never looked inside the laptop just told me that. I talked to my brother and he said it probably kicked into safe mode, after putting the laptop in rice and waiting a day, I plugged it in and guess what. It booted up and everything is ok. So geek squad guy. Be more professional and actually look more into what could be the problem.

Geek Squad was very helpful in diagnosing my computers issues and getting my problem resolved in one day. However, the rest of the store was not very helpful and seemed to be avoiding helping customers. It seemed like you would have to track down employees to help you and even then they were reluctant to put forth any real effort in helping your resolve your problem.
