Had an awesome experience with Ben! I brought my Mac in for repair in early December, and it was fixed quickly for a fair price. When I got it back I did discover that the wifi was no longer working, and I was able to bring it back in to him pretty fast considering the time of year. Ben fixed it in a few minutes, I didn't even have to leave it there. And he even used a part from his own stock, which he kindly didn't charge me for. I highly recommend Portland Mac Repair!

The person you'll be dealing with at Portland Mac Repair is Ben. Ben is your friend. Ben is awesome. On my initial inquiry via his website he was very timely in his response. Beyond that on follow up emails things were a day or two but know that he works from home and is often balancing many clients. And when you get his ear and time it's great that he's present and swift with your questions and not busy responding to other folks at the same time. He's good about holding office hours and respect them as his office is his home. Do not randomly stop by unless he asks you to drop something off after hours. He's very flexible with pickup times and only takes cash so be prepared. Make sure to clarify pickup arrangements before hand as he has a few systems available. The ultimate lesson here is that he really knows his stuff. I had a faulty upgrade OS and it locked up everything. He was able to asses the potential problem just by talking with me and fixed it in that same day. This won't always be the case but I am happy to call him my Mac guy. Base $50 but life saving in most cases. Way more than just phones.

Visiting from out of state, I had water damage to my mac and my ability to function was crippled. At first, his voice seemed a little off (He is an artist, too) but I was on a budget. Other brick and mortar firms came in with $400-$800 estimates, but Ben assured me he could fix it much cheaper in all probability. He ended up replacing only the charging port for an amazingly cheap price- so I tipped him with all the cash in my pocket. He is honest IMO, and I felt he is genuine. I do not know him personally and have no agenda other than speaking of my experience. I almost never do these reviews.

I needed a keyboard replaced for my Mac and a couple other things done while the computer was apart. He ordered the part as soon as I had dropped the computer off, estimated the completion time and cost accurately. The location looks nothing like most peoples' mental picture of a Mac store, but the service was fast and $165 cheaper than one of the others I used to go to. It's been two weeks and everything's running great and my shopping around earned me a series class at Night Flight.

In college, I was friends with engineer majors who always helped me out with my computer troubles in a casual exchange of "Let's call it even at this price and I'll get it to you this day" and they always had a genuine desire to troubleshoot whatever technological glitch I had. So it's a positive to me that Ben is similarly casual yet professional/respectful in his work. If you are expecting a storefront, posted hours, and paperwork as a sign that someone is a "pro" then you have the wrong criteria. Besides, this is Portland. Ben works with integrity and an interest in his work without overpricing for a brick & mortar storefront. Expect to be casual in exchanging money and services but know that everything is always above board. I would (and will) return to Ben for my computer problems, he's awesome, respectful, and knows his stuff. I trust him with my computers.
