I found CPR - Cell Phone Repair Indianapolis after researching online for PS3 Repairs. I picked this company because their website specifically has the "yellow light of death" as an option for PlayStation 3 repairs (see attached photo). After booking my appointment online, I was called later that day by a representative at this specific location. She discussed the likelihood of my PS3 requiring soldering repairs because of the issues I was describing and then we discussed pricing. I was quoted at $150 which was more than reasonable. I dropped off my PS3 at my scheduled appointment time, 01/26/25 at 11 AM. The diagnostics process was super quick. I received a phone call the same day it dropped off and the representative confirmed what was previously discussed. My PS3 required soldering on the motherboard to be repaired. However, they informed me that they do not have the necessary tools to perform the repair. They then gave me an alternative solution. They offered to order a new motherboard for the system and would replace it for the same price I was previously quoted. I told them this was okay and they could proceed. I was told my system should be ready by the end of the week. Fast forward to 02/04/25 and I still had not heard back about my PS3. I call and talk with the representative that gave me the initial quote and she pulled up my information in the system. She begins with "you probably haven't been called or told about this, but we ended up ordering a different PS3 system online for you to replace the the one you brought in". She was correct. I was never informed they were going to swap my PS3 with a completely different one. I explained to her that was not an acceptable solution as I never agreed to it. My PS3 is an original launch PS3 that is backwards compatible with PS1 and PS2 games. These systems were known to be defective and required new soldering to be repaired. Additionally, the system they were going to replace mine with was a DIFFERENT MODEL that did not have the same features as mine. The only reason I found out was because I called and asked for an update. I told the representative I wanted my PS3 fixed or I would return and pick it up. She told me to pick it up since they didn't have the tools to do the job. The repair tech called me later that day to tell me he found the same model PS3 as mine online that they could order and swap for mine. I explained that I did not want that since almost all launch PS3's are defective and without soldering repairs, that one would also end up having the same issue. This company should not advertise repairs on their website if all of their locations do not have the tools to do the job. Also, swapping a device with another device WITHOUT informing the customer is 100% unacceptable!
